Reading the data
- Each row represents a municipal record. The same episode may generate records in several municipalities. Federal recognition follows a separate process.
- Reporting coverage, forms and institutional capacity changed over time. Rising record counts alone cannot establish that physical risk increased.
- The map uses 5,570 municipalities from IBGE’s 2022 boundaries. Points lie within each municipal polygon. They identify municipalities rather than disaster locations or intensities.
- The four groups follow the classifications in this data extract. The series is a snapshot of the version used for this demonstration and may change after revisions.
